Following in the footsteps of their latest EP, 'The Knot', released last November, Dutch duo Amy Root are making their longed-for return to Reflektor with their newest single, 'Mirrors'. Here again, the pair's poignant pop sensibility and finesse electronics entangle in a weightless ballet of sorts, all draped in vaporous late-summer pastel shades and flown by a sense of melancholia-drenched positivism. Fuelled on that bitter mix of sorrow and glee, merging tender vocal soulfulness with dynamic two-step patterns on a straight UK garage spin, the track reveals an ambivalent slice of emotionally-charged let-go bound to whisk the listener off to an Eden of smooth-textured timbres and slo-burning riffs at once. Carving out their own lane, halfway thin-skinned folk ambiences and a proper floor-ready construction geared-up for hi-intensity traction down the basement, Amy Root's new single is a vibrant new instance of the contrasted, hair-raising headspace they champion, subtle and charismatic in equal measure. Beware 'Mirrors' addictive pulse and haunting aura, once you've gone to the other side there's no turning back.
